synopsis:

The joy of connecting with the natural world collides with modern technology as a small lobstering community on an island off Maine faces the loss of their livelihoods due to an energy company's plans for it.

This disruption produces a severe rift within the community, pitting key players, who happen to be brother and sister, against each other in a fight to gain control of the future of the island that exposes long-held family secrets.

Roles:

Manny:  30s-40s (male)
Brother of Nan.  Long time executive in the family's development business. He is determined to transform the island into a massive green energy producing entity, but at the cost of the lobstering industry there, as well as the natural shoreline.

Nan:  30s-40s (female)
Manny's sister.  Left the family business to work for a company with a very different vision for the future of the island. As co-owners of property on the island with Manny and a long-time summer resident, Nan is fiercely loyal to the lobstering community and believes a less obtrusive green energy future can be attained without destroying the ecosystem that has worked on the island for generations.  This puts her in direct opposition to Manny emotionally, financially, and morally.

Rocco:  40s-50s (male)
Lobsterman. He has survived in the industry for decades. His lobstering boat is his identity. He fears an uncertain future.

Allen:  40s-50s (male)
Lobsterman.  Friend of Rocco and one of the most senior and respected lobsterman on the island.  He detests what modernity is doing to his livelihood and doesn't plan to go down easily.

Eileen:  30s-40s (female)
Owner of the sole general store on the island.  A long-time resident who resists the change coming to the island.  For her, the island is a spiritual oasis that she wants to protect fiercely.

Lyra:  30s-40s (female)
Nan and Manny's half sister, a fact Nan is unaware of at the outset of the play. Lyra is a local news reporter, waitress, and part-time employee at the general store. She is also a volunteer media coordinator for the company that Nan represents, which is how they ultimately meet.
