Singing Audition
Your singing audition will consist of performing either a few bars of a song from the show OR a song of your choosing. While singing a song from the show might be ideal, if there is another song you have prepared that you feel captures your vocal range, you may feel free to sing it instead.
Recommended songs for each role include:
Brad – “Damn it, Janet!”
Janet – “Touch-A Touch-A Touch Me”
Magenta/Usherette – “Science Fiction Double Feature”
Frank-N-Furter – “Sweet Transvestite”
Riff-Raff – “The Time Warp” (Riff Raff’s verses)
Rocky – “The Sword of Damocles”
Eddie – “Hot Patootie”
Columbia – “Floorshow/Rose Tint My World” (Columbia’s verse)
Narrator – Auditioner’s choice!
Dance Audition
If this section makes you nervous, let us put your fears to rest and assure you that all levels of dance skill will be considered in this show, from beginner/novice to advanced. The choreography we employ will be simple enough for any person, skilled or otherwise, to master. Our dance audition will feature the iconic Time Warp! Below is a brief guide to this dance for
anyone unfamiliar with the show:
Here is the dance with the music
Alternate Dance Audition
If you have another dance routine that you know particularly well (jazz, tap, hip-hop, etc.) you may choose to perform that dance instead of the Time Warp. Don’t feel pressured to do this, it will NOT affect your chances of being cast ensemble. It is merely to demonstrate your own level of skill, all of which will be considered equally. For the dance audition, you will be evaluated primarily on how you SELL the dance, performance-wise. Make it scary, sultry, silly, whatever you feel. But, make a choice in your performance and whatever you choose, make it BIG!
Acting Audition
The final part of your audition (if applicable) will be a brief reading of a section from the show. For this section, we will call in one of your fellow auditioners to perform alongside you, so we can see how performers interact with each other.
Note: The character of Eddie will not have an acting audition as his dialogue is entirely sung. However, if you’re auditioning for Eddie, we will ask you to read for Doctor Scott in auditions.
