Essex Community Players is a non-profit organization. There are no paid employees. It is the responsibility of the person proposing the show to provide the people needed to manage and produce it. ECP will provide the venue and all the knowledge you need to put together a successful show.
Types of Shows We present three shows per season. Usually our schedule consists of a musical, a grouping of one-act plays and a comedy or drama. We are open to any type of show proposal, however, over the past 30 years we have come to understand that there are certain types of shows which are more successful. These are as follows:
- fewer than 25 cast members
- family-oriented content
- single level set construction (no two-story sets)
Proposal Process ECP is trying a new, two-part proposal process.
Part One is very simple. Send an email to our Artistic Direction Committee with:
- Name of your play/show
- 50 word description of your play/show
- Director’s name
- Producer’s name
- Stage Manager’s name
- Lighting Director’s name
- Size of cast (approximate.)
SUBMIT A PROPOSAL
Part Two would be completed once your initial proposal has Committee approval. Once the ADC recommends a show to the Board of Directors the person interested in producing a show must meet with the Board of Directors to discuss the show. We expect to see a presentation that covers the proposed budget, describes who will be on the production team, why you want to do this show, production schedule, etc. The Board can accept, modify, or reject the proposal as it sees fit.
Artistic Direction Committee This is a small group of volunteers who review all proposed plays and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. These recommendations are based on the shows’ appropriate content, marketability, size, and cost.
