MALE VERSION
“The Odd Couple”
Oscar Madison: A sportswriter, recently divorced. He’s a slob and content to be one. Gruff and sarcastic on the outside, with a soft heart underneath. Requires good comic timing. New York accent desirable, but not necessary for auditions. Stage age range: Late 30’s to early 50’s. Felix
Unger: A TV news writer, neat freak and hypochondriac. The exact opposite of Oscar. Has just been thrown out by his wife. Peevish and petulant. Speech is precise, with no regional accent. Stage age range: Late 30’s to early 50’s.
The Poker Players Stage age range for all – 30 and up.
Speed: Sarcastic, impatient. Loves the poker game. Murray: A cop. Conservative, literal. Roy: Oscar’s accountant. Tries, in vain, to rein Oscar in. Vinnie: Henpecked, whiny.
The Pigeon Sisters Stage age range – 25 to early 40’s
Gwendolyn and Cecily: Silly, seductive and sweet. British accent needed for performance, but not necessary at auditions. This is a great comic scene! Limited rehearsals required. For actors interested in being in both productions--and who can develop strong, unique characters—cross casting will be considered.
FEMALE VERSION
“The Odd Couple”
Olive Madison: A primetime TV news producer. Recently divorced. Messy, careless in her housekeeping habits and content to be that way. Uses humor and sarcasm to get her points across. Requires good comic timing. Slight New York accent may be used in performance, but not necessary for auditions. Stage age range: 30’s to early 50’s.
Florence Unger: Housewife. Just separated from her husband. A neat freak and hypochondriac. Whiny at times. The exact opposite of Olive, yet they’re good friends. No regional accent necessary. Stage age range: 30’s to early 50’s.
The Trivial Pursuit Players Stage age range for all 20’s to early 50’s
Sylvie: Pregnant. Wise-cracker. Mickey: A cop. Take-charge type. Vera: Not the brightest bulb in the string of lights, but lovable in her naiveté. Renee: Fun-loving, somewhat sarcastic.
The Costazuela Brothers Stage age range: 35 and up
Manolo and Jesus: Debonair, polite and good-natured. Spanish accent needed for performance, but not necessary at auditions. In the director’s opinion, this is one of the funniest comedic scenes ever written. Limited rehearsals required. For actors interested in being in both productions--and who can develop strong, unique characters—cross casting will be considered.
Performance and Rehearsal Schedules
Performances September 11 through 28, 2008 Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights & Sunday matinee Each cast performs on alternating nights (6 each)
Rehearsals June 27 through September 10, 2008. Brush-ups September 16 & 17, 23 & 24. Each cast has two (2) rehearsals per week. Rehearsals on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Essex Memorial Hall, Essex Town, VT
